Jack Fawdry Tatham Scottish, b. 1990

Overview

“I yearn for contact and a connection to the natural world, so I use my drawings as a way to fill that void. I worry that science, christianity and industrialised farming have all played a role in demystifying and dissolving the kinship between humans and animals. In my work I try to rekindle this precious connection.”

Jack has worked as a printmaker for many years, focusing primarily on copper plate etching. Having first discovered etching while studying sculpture at Camberwell College of Art, Jack has since developed a large portfolio of works and set up his own print studio.

Alongside this inky practice, Jack also works in the medium of egg tempera painted on gessoed boards.

Both etching and egg tempera can be seen as traditional mediums and both have strong associations with the past. For Jack this is an important reason for working with these mediums.
