Clare Haward: Charcoal workshop: Slow Looking, Considered Drawings

January 9 - 10, 2027
Overview

Join Clare Haward in the gallery space for a small and attentive workshop.

Over the weekend participants will be introduced or build upon knowledge of working with charcoal, to create atmospheric drawings based on a series of still life set-ups. Clare will lead drawing exercises that encourage careful observation of the structure; paying attention to shape, line and tone within compositions. The role of light and shadow will be considered, alongside exploration into charcoal as an additive and reductive medium.

With a maximum of 7 students per session, these dedicated sessions will be set amongst the gallery interior and artworks. Easels and small work tables will be provided. Each session will end with a cup of tea and a review of the work during class.
