Helen Ireland ‘Pink Sky’

In her recent Pink Sky series, Helen Ireland has created paintings and conte drawings that explore the delicate subtleties of shifting colour and atmosphere. Different saturations and hues of pinks and yellows are used to create airy spaces that float and hover. Helen’s colour palette relates to her observations of the ever-changing skies over the capital. The images; using watercolour, gouache, conte crayon and mapping pens have evolved through the overlayed plotting and re-positioning of geometric triangles of colour that push and pull, in and out of forms beyond the picture plane. Her shapes ascend and descend, creating a mesmeric ambiguity that is at once subtle and visually coherent.
